Why did I call this substack Lawless Explications?

It began with a writing prompt. A prompt to get myself to dig deeper into the poems that I loved — poems that I wanted to spend more time with and explore, the interiority of the poems as well as tangential rabbit holes that they inspired me to consider.

Poems are alive. We enter poems, live in their world for a time, then exit. Cid Corman expresses this about as well as can be done in It Isnt for want.

My conception of Lawless Explications is a way to sit, spend time, even linger with the poems that speak to you.

I’ve been writing Lawless Explications since July 2018.

I’m going to share soemthing of an ars poetica and then begin sharing some of what I consider my better efforts at reflecting in this mode.
