The major reason to oppose the death penalty (and there are many) is that it is used to enforce a racial hierarchy, providing a way to drive wedges into the black family, as was also done in slavery, and to keep black men particularly from becoming a major part of the power structure. Just because they aren't being lynched outright doesn't mean the same thing isn't happening behind bars.
The Trumpian revolution is actually a regression to Jim Crow politics in the U.S., this time with the help of a burgeoning private prison structure, which will also be used to punish political prisoners and turn immigrants and their children into slaves, though as it was, as migrants, many were already close to being slaves.
Well said, Robbi. I agree, the death penalty is tied to the disturbing Prison Industrial Complex which, by design, is geared towards disenfranchising Black men and, in modern times, really all minority groups.
I don't know. I don't know what to think yet. Is that wrong of me? I feel like I'm in an experiment. A new country has been formed. One I didn't have a say in. And I'm just sort of watching to see how it gets set up and how things work before I know what to do...is that weird?
No, not wrong at all. Being unsure is good, I think, in many ways. Western culture thrives on plurality and our ability to navigate difficult and, sometimes, irreconcilable truths. No one has a crystal ball and so being cautious about speculation is both reasonable and responsible.
I actually had the weirdest dream about it last night. I've sort of buried my head in the sand about this...unwanting to face it. My subconscious was having none of it. I dreamt my friend took me to Elon Musk's headquarters and they were shooting a commercial for a new restaurant that was going to be the only restaurant people could go to in the U.S. It was called Steak and Lobster. It was a cafeteria style restaurant and Elon Musk played all the different characters in the commercial AI generated with his face. The guy behind the cash register, all the customers, the people dishing out the food. He was the spokesperson. The guy walking through the line getting served all of the food. The only sides were french fries and the only main course was fried fish heads. And when they ran out of fried fish heads they served fried fish head chump which was the extra junk leftover from the fried fish heads. And the only people who got actual fried fish heads were the first 5 people in the line...the VIPs. The director asked me what I thought. I said it was terrible. Why was it called Steak and Lobster if they only served fried fish heads? People were promised Steak and Lobster. And only the top five got fried fish heads...the rest of the people got the leftover chump. And why was Elon Musk playing all the characters. And why were the only sides fried? French fries? Everyone fell silent. And then someone yelled out "But it's RFK Jr. approved!" I think it was a political dream. I'm writing an essay about it. Sorry to vent. But thanks.
It really is super interesting the way people's brains individualize process information. We sorta know (current science, may be proved wrong and absurd later) that our brain has to unpack our days somehow and cleanse the "junk" which if it builds up is quite bad, apparently, with regards to cognitive function and decay over time without proper rest...
In any case, all that is a preamble to me saying that your dream sounds like a wonky version of Demolition Man — and if you haven't watched it you certainly have to ASAP
No, I don't want to see a revolution because they get out of control and innocent people die. I would like to see reform. If I had to put money on which will happen, I'd wager revolution. And am not at all sure that the good guys will be those who start it or who will win.
I would guess a J6.02 with fascist shock troops and leadership, and an army of crusading gullibles who think the leaders are directed by God to set things straight.

A thoughtful meditation about real problems.

Thanks for weighing in, Janice. Notable point that there's no guarantee "good" will prevail.
