I'm fond of The Pierian, which has published two of my sonnets, one of which was my first published poem. They aren't as fast as some of the markets on this list, but a month isn't too bad, especially since

- They publish monthly and often curate pieces that speak to each other.

- They send personal declines as a rule (though no promises).

Some unusual things about The Pierian:

- Cover letters are not just optional but not accepted.

- They read completely blind and even shuffle poems sent together with other authors' work so that each poem is considered on its own merits.

- They don't publish bios.

One caveat is that they only do simultaneous submissions with a code; there's one available for free on Chill Subs.

The submission process seems a bit complicated, but interesting. Thanks for sharing, David.

Yeah, it’s admittedly a little annoying breaking a packet into separate files.

That's fairly standard. I'm more concerned about only saying sim subs are ok with a "code".

I take issue with reading blind. That's going to be in a follow-up post.

It does sound like The Pierian has their heart in the right place.

They do seem aware of the trade-offs of reading blind, and at least motivated to mitigate them if not always successful: https://www.patreon.com/file?h=91979455&i=16379945. Reading blind strikes me as a piece with the publishing format and what they like to curate, and while I tend to agree that the literary default shouldn't be reading blind, I'm glad to have the option if that makes sense?

Looking forward to your thoughts.
